"Duck Dynasty" star Phil Robertson said Wednesday that he was voting for Republican presidential candidate
Ted Cruz.
"Ted Cruz is my man," Robertson said in video included in a Twitter post from the Cruz campaign. "I'm voting for him."
"My qualifications for president of the United States are rather narrow," Robertson said in the video. "Is he or she Godly? Does he or she love us? Can he or she do the job — and finally, would they kill a duck and put him in a pot and make him a good duck gumbo?"
"I've looked at the candidates," he said. "Ted Cruz is my man. He fits the bill."
Robertson, a graduate of Louisiana Tech University who worked as a schoolteacher before starting his duck-calls business, gave Cruz his endorsement while they were duck hunting on Monday.
"You're one of us, my man," he tells the first-term Texas senator. "That's why we're voting for you. It's now or never."
"Duck Dynasty" is entering its ninth season on the A&E cable network.
"I am thrilled to have Phil's support for our campaign," Cruz said. "The Robertsons are a strong family of great Christian faith and conservative values.
"Phil's story of starting off with something small and working hard to achieve the American dream is inspiring," he added. "Much like my parents, and many other Americans, who started a small business and worked hard to provide for our family."
In September,
Robertson's son, Willie, endorsed GOP front-runner Donald Trump.
