Siena Poll: 66 Percent of N.Y. Voters Say Rep. Santos Should Resign

A majority of New Yorkers from all political parties say that embattled Rep. George Santos, R-N.Y., should resign from Congress, according to a new poll.

Among New York voters, 72% of Democrats, 63% of independents, and 58% of Republicans say Santos should leave his seat, the Siena College Research Institute Survey found.

Overall, 66% of voters statewide say Santos should resign from Congress, up from 59% in January.

The Siena survey also discovered that 64% of voters view Santos unfavorability. That's up from 56% last month.

"The 'good' news for Santos is that even in these hyper partisan times, he's found a way to get Democrats, Republicans, and independents to agree about a political figure," Siena College pollster Steven Greenberg said.

"The bad news for Santos is that the political figure they agree on is him, and they overwhelmingly view him unfavorably."

Santos, who was elected to Congress in November, has admitted to fabricating information on his resume and about his background. He insists he has broken no laws.

The lawmaker recused himself from House committee assignments but has been adamant that he will not resign.

Santos is facing investigations by state, federal, and international agencies on a range of potential crimes from campaign finance violations to pet charity fraud, Politico reported.
