Hollywood megastar Richard Gere has met with baseball executive Ray Negron and could be lining up to direct the big-screen version of Negron’s book “Yankee Miracles.”
“Richard loves the spiritual aspect of the book and all the spirits that surround the stories,” Negron said.
“Yankee Miracles: Life with the Boss and the Bronx Bombers” offers a unique, behind-the-scenes look at America’s most storied baseball franchise and the man they called “The Boss” — Yankees owner George Steinbrenner.
Newsmax reported earlier that Jason Davis, president of Monteiro Rose Dravis literary agency — who made hits out of “The Hunger Games” and “Hugo” — was working to sell the movie rights to Negron’s intriguing memoir.
And Gere is no stranger to Yankees lore. In addition to his many starring roles in movies including “Pretty Woman,” he served as co-director of “Yankeeland: In the Shadow of the Stadium,” a documentary about the last year of the old Yankee Stadium and the first year of the new ballpark.
Negron’s book hit Amazon’s bestseller list soon after its release on Sept. 3, reaching No. 1 in the Sports & Outdoors — Baseball category.
Negron was a 17-year-old Yankees fan from Queens when he was caught spray-painting graffiti on a Yankee Stadium wall by none other than Steinbrenner himself.

But instead of pressing charges, Steinbrenner made Negron a team batboy.
Thus began a journey that would take Negron from a trouble-making street kid to a Yankees executive who has dedicated his life to helping underprivileged youths.
Negron tells of the legendary Yankees he befriended, including Reggie Jackson, Billy Martin, Thurman Munson, Derek Jeter, and Alex Rodriquez.
And serious baseball aficionados love the Bronx tale. No less than Henry Kissinger said, "Fans will embrace
‘Yankee Miracles’ — full of fascinating personal anecdotes and behind-the-scenes details.”
Hank Steinbrenner, George’s son, called the book “one of the most honest portrayals of my dad that I’ve seen.”
And Bob Costas of NBC Sports Network said: “I defy anyone to read Ray Negron’s remarkable story and not come away believing that there still can be genuine heart, soul, and even redemption in the games we watch and play.”

Negron previously published three children’s books with baseball themes, with proceeds going to charity.
As for his longtime relationship with Steinbrenner, Negron told Newsmax in an exclusive interview: “Could he be tough?” Could he be mean? Yeah. But with the kids of this country, whenever he saw a kid that needed help, he was always the first one there. He always was there with the less fortunate. He was always there to help people in whatever way possible.”
