President Donald Trump vowed to build the wall on the Mexican border even if he has to shut down the government to secure funding for it, CNBC reported.

He made the vow during a rally in Phoenix, Arizona on Tuesday.

"If we have to close down our government, we're building that wall," Trump said. Congress must agree to an overall funding bill that Trump signs into law by Sept. 30 or the government will shut down, according to CNBC. But Democratic lawmakers have vowed to oppose any deal that includes money for the wall.

If Congress does push through a funding package without money for the wall, Trump could decide against signing the measure, forcing a shutdown.

Designs for the border wall were accepted by the Department of Homeland Security earlier this year, The Hill noted.
