Hillary Repeats Claim FBI Director Said She Was Truthful

Hillary Clinton repeated her claim this week that FBI Director James Comey said all her public statements on her private email server were truthful, even after The Washington Post fact checker gave her four Pinocchios for making the claim.

Clinton sat for an interview Tuesday with KUSA-TV in Denver on Tuesday, where she was asked about the controversy by reporter Brandon Rittiman. The exchange can be seen at the 4:18 mark in the accompanying video.

"What kind of stuff was in those emails that [Donald Trump] keeps harping on?" Rittiman asked.

"It was all personal stuff, and we've said that consistently," Clinton said. "And as the FBI said, everything that I've said publicly has been consistent and truthful with what I've told them."

Clinton originally made that claim in an interview with Chris Wallace aired over the weekend on "Fox News Sunday."

But The Washington Post's Glenn Kessler proclaimed
that statement untrue, saying, "Clinton is cherry-picking statements by Comey to preserve her narrative about the unusual setup of a private email server."

CNN's Joe Johns reported Thursday that Clinton initially said that Comey had said nothing she told the FBI during an interview was untrue, which would have been obstruction of justice.

But when congressional Republicans quizzed Comey in a Capitol Hill hearing about Clinton's public statements, he said that what she had told the press was not consistent with his investigation, including that no classified material had been sent over her private system and that all government-related emails had been turned over to the State Department.

Noting that Clinton's GOP rival Donald Trump had earlier Thursday repeated claims he had seen video of the plane delivering $400 million in cash to Iran — a video that his own campaign said was actually video of Americans landing in Geneva — CNN's Jake Tapper, said, "Those poor fact checkers are going to run out of Pinocchios before this election's over."
