The Daily Mail reported Friday that Hunter Biden and his family moved into a $15,800 monthly rental in Malibu, California, his fourth residence in the state in four years.
According to the report, Biden, his wife Melissa Cohen, and son Beau moved into the three-bedroom, three-bathroom 1950s-era gated community residence that the one-year rental listing said also has a gourmet kitchen, "guest studio with private balcony overlooking the ocean that creates the perfect artistic space."
The report said that Biden's Secret Service detail is taking up residence across the street in a $16,000 per month four-bedroom rental funded by taxpayers.
The 2,500 square-foot home with an estimated market value of $4 million will cost President Biden's son $189,600 for the year but is a downsize for Hunter Biden, who previously lived in a $20,000-per-month Malibu property, the report said.
Hunter Biden is partially funding his lifestyle from the sale of his paintings with New York gallerist George Berges, the report said.
The downsizing is likely due to his mounting legal bills after a plea deal on federal tax and gun charges fell through last month, making it likely he will stand trial in the future.
Earlier this month, the Mail reported that Hunter Biden and his wife were not the best tenants, leaving a home they rented in Venice Beach, California, in 2021, in "terrible condition."
"Hunter and Melissa were horrible tenants," a source told the publication. "Not only did they stiff the owner for months of rent, they left the house in terrible condition."
In addition to leaving the property in "disarray," the couple allegedly stiffed their landlords for some $80,000 in back rent, that story said.
The three-story property was owned at the time by Sweetgarden CEO and co-founder Jonathan Neman and his wife Leora.
"They were totally disrespectful of Jonathan and [his wife] Leora's property," the source told the Mail. "Melissa was rude and entitled. They destroyed the stereo equipment in the home and when someone came to fix it, they were uncooperative. They also left the place dirty."
Neman did not pursue the debt in court, the source said.
"Neman decided not to take Hunter to court for the arrears," the source told the news outlet. "It's not that he needed the money, and, frankly, it was embarrassing."
Neman sold the home, which cost the Bidens $25,000 per month in rent, in March for $3.9 million, the report said.
