Rep. Jason Chaffetz told CNN on Thursday that he "wholeheartedly" supported an investigation by the Justice Department's inspector general regarding the FBI and its probe of Hillary Clinton's private email use.

"Justice is what we all want to prevail," the Utah Republican told Wolf Blitzer on CNN. "There are questions on both sides of the aisle about timing and who they met with and the information that was put out."

Chaffetz, 49, who was first elected in 2008, chairs the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

"It's not just about Director Comey," he added, referring to FBI Director James Comey. "It should look into why the attorney general [Loretta Lynch] met with [former] President Bill Clinton days before this announcement of somebody being the subject of an investigation.

"There are a lot of questions."

Chaffetz also slammed Walter Shaub, head of the Office of Government Ethics, for attacking President-elect Donald Trump's plan for his business operations without fully examining it.

"I thought it was very premature," he told Blitzer. "The office of government ethics to essentially be in the spin room saying, 'Hey, I hate this,' when he hasn't even actually looked at it or reviewed it.

"This is an Obama donor who was very supportive of Hillary Clinton in some of the actions that he took," Chaffetz added. "I think that the ethics office is supposed to be impartial — and it seems to have a partial bent to it right now."
