GOP candidate Mike Huckabee said Friday that he finds it "fascinating" that instead of communicating with Ambassador Chris Stevens, Hillary Clinton had a running conversation going with longtime confidant Sidney Blumenthal.

"You have to wonder, if she was as willing to cooperate and communicate with Chris Stevens as she was with Sidney Blumenthal and been honest with the American people, as she was with her own daughter and the Egyptian government, would four Americans be alive today?" Huckabee told Fox News' "America's Newsroom" host Bill Hemmer.

His comments came a day after the former secretary of state testified for 11 hours before the House Select Committee on Benghazi, during which she said she did not receive communications from Stevens calling for more security for the diplomatic outpost.

But Huckabee said Clinton survived the questioning because she was doing "what the Clintons are great at doing."

"They first deny," he told Hemmer. "Then they deceive and then they distract. And ultimately what they do is, you know, they just go ahead and delay and they keep running the clock"

He's seen that same pattern as long as he's known the Clintons, "going my entire adult life working against the political machinery that I saw in Arkansas all those years ago," Huckabee, a former governor of Arkansas like Bill Clinton, told Hemmer.

And the Clintons are good at that pattern, he continued, and "Republicans underestimate what it will be like to face the Clintons in the election."

He does think the Republicans at the hearing asked pointed, tough questions, but he's not sure Americans were paying much attention.

But they should be, because he doesn't think she told the truth or explained why she "repeatedly lied about the attack being over a YouTube video" or why she was not in communication with Stevens.

"That's what never really got, I think fundamentally answered yesterday," said Huckabee, "and I'm not sure it ever will."
