President Barack Obama enjoys political target practice on Republicans — but who knew he was also adept at hoisting a shotgun and blasting clay pigeons out of the sky?
Nobody did — which is why it came as such a big surprise when the commander-in-boasted of skeet shooting on a regular basis.
"In fact, up at Camp David, we do skeet shooting all the time," the president revealed in an interview with The New Republic. "Not the girls, but oftentimes guests of mine go up there."
But the president¹s boast — made smack in the middle of his controversial quest to tighten gun control laws — has prompted one Republican lawmaker with a talented trigger finger to challenge him to a shooting match.
"If he is a skeet shooter, why have we not heard of this?" Tennessee Rep.
Marsha Blackburn
asked on CNN on Monday night.
"Why have we not seen photos? Why hasn¹t he referenced this at any point in time?" Blackburn went on: "I tell you what I do think — I think he should invite me to Camp David, and I¹ll go skeet shooting with him and I bet I¹ll beat him."
When there was no immediate word from the White House on Blackburn¹s cheeky dare, the she returned to CNN Tuesday to further taunt.
"I would think that if the president says that he¹s been skeet shooting, I would like to know with what regularity he is out there shooting those clay pigeons," Blackburn said.
"I want to know if he¹s shooting with a 12-gauge or a 20-gauge; I prefer a 20-gauge."
So far, White House press secretary Jay Carney has only said he¹s not sure how often his boss obliterates clay pigeons, but noted, "He does go to Camp David with some regularity."
