By    |   Tuesday, 26 June 2012 02:27 PM EDT

Florida GOP Sen. Marco Rubio is the leading choice for Mitt Romney’s vice-presidential running mate among voters overall and even more so among Republicans, according to the latest IBOPE Inteligência poll.

Overall, 44 percent chose someone "who has an established record in public office or government and will been seen as acceptable to moderate voters," while 15 percent choose someone “with little or no history of public office who will generate enthusiasm among particular groups.”

Results among Republican survey respondents were similar to those of all voters, with 40 percent opting for politicians who are more established.

Rubio, 41, is in his first term as U.S. Senator from Florida and one of his perceived assets is his Hispanic heritage, according to survey results. His parents are Cuban immigrants.

Nearly three-fourths, or 73 percent, say Romney’s choice for running mate will not influence their votes, while 6 percent say it will have much influence and 18 percent say it will have some.

The nationwide interactive poll finds 22 percent of overall voters prefer that Romney choose Rubio as a running mate, while 36 percent of Republican voters concur with the statement.
