Rudy Giuliani: 'Former FBI Agents' Told Me of New Emails Before Announcement

("Fox and Friends"/Fox News)

Rudy Giuliani said Friday that he learned from "former FBI agents" that the agency was planning to review newly discovered emails from Hillary Clinton's private server before Director James Comey told Congress about them last week.

"I did nothing to get it out," the former New York City Mayor and federal prosecutor told the "Fox and Friends" program on Fox News. "I had no role in it.

"Did I hear about it? You’re darn right I heard about it," the Donald Trump surrogate said. "I can’t even repeat the language that I heard from the former FBI agents."

Three days before Comey's disclosure, on Oct. 25, Giuliani also told Fox that the Trump campaign had "a surprise or two that you're going to hear about in the next two days.

"I'm talking about some pretty big surprise," he said.

Comey told Congress of his decision in a letter, basing it on emails the FBI found on a laptop shared by longtime Clinton aide Huma Abedin and her estranged husband, Anthony Weiner.

The FBI had been investigating Weiner, the former New York congressman, for another "sexting" scandal — revealed in late August after The New York Post published photos of his online exchanges with several women, including a 15-year-old girl.

Giuliani said Friday that he expected Comey to disclose his actions weeks before he did.
"I had expected this for the last — honestly, to tell you the truth — I thought it was going to be about three or four weeks ago, because way back in July this started," he said.

"They kept getting stymied looking for subpoenas, looking for records," Giuliani added, referring to FBI agents.

He said he had nothing to do with the timing of Comey's letter — coming 11 days before Election Day — and reiterated that his information came from "former FBI agents."

"I’m real careful not to talk to any on-duty, active FBI agents," he told Fox. "I don’t want to put them in a compromising position.

"But I sure have a lot of friends who are retired FBI agents, close, personal friends," he added. "All I heard were former FBI agents telling me that there’s a revolution going on inside the FBI — and it’s now at a boiling point."
