Report: Man With Criminal Record, Gun Rode Elevator With Obama

By    |   Tuesday, 30 September 2014 07:20 PM EDT

The Secret Service allowed a security contractor with a criminal record to ride an elevator with President Barack Obama while carrying a gun, Fox News reports.

When Obama visited the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta on September 16 to talk about the Ebola crisis in West Africa, the person was allowed to participate in the president's security detail without undergoing a background check, Fox reported. That violated Secret Service protocols.

Rep. Jason Chaffetz called the breach "outrageous," Fox reported.

The incident occurred just three days before Omar J. Gonzalez jumped the fence at the White House and ran around inside the ground floor before being subdued.

Congress on Tuesday grilled Secret Service Director Julia Pierson on a number of breaches at the White House.
