The State Department has yet to find a single email to or from Bryan Pagliano, the IT specialist who is believed to have set up Hillary Clinton's private email server, during Clinton's time in office.

According to The Hill, there is an electronic hole spanning from May 1, 2009 to Feb. 1, 2013.

"We are continuing to search for Mr. Pagliano's emails," State Department spokesperson Elizabeth Trudeau said Monday, reports The Hill. "We are conducting a thorough search. It is not required for employees to save every email they sent and received, however they must preserve federal records."

Clinton's alternate email setup, which involved the use of a private server installed at her home in Chappaqua, N.Y. and several email accounts, has been the source of much controversy during her current presidential campaign.

The FBI is investigating the matter and is expected to interview Clinton about her role in the case.

Pagliano worked on Clinton's failed 2008 presidential campaign and is believed to have set up the email server prior to Clinton starting her job as Secretary of State. He was given immunity in exchange for cooperating with the FBI investigation.
