Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush's presidential bid is so ineffectual that he's running a "marshmallow candidacy," Brent Bozell president of Media Research Center, tells Newsmax TV.

"He's a man with a very pleasant face. When I hear that he went to mass before the debate — I'm a Catholic — that to me is very touching. But now, can you tell me anything he said in that debate?" Bozell said Wednesday on "The Steve Malzberg Show."

"That's the point. It's marshmallow. This is a marshmallow candidacy. This is a man who really isn't talking about anything except for that which goes against conservative principles: Common Core, immigration is another one, which by the way he's waffling on now.

"He's endorsed his father's tax increases for goodness sake. These are the things that are poisoned pills in the Republican primary …"

According to a new CNN/ORC poll released Wednesday, Bush is in a woeful seventh place among the 17 declared Republican candidates.

"He's got $100 million [in campaign money] but he's got two problems on that one: one is called [New Jersey Gov.] Chris Christie and the other one is called [Ohio Gov.] John Kasich, both of whom did well. Forget [Sen.] Lindsey Graham [of South Carolina.]," Bozell said.

"Those two did quite well and they are going for the same spot that he's going for. It's not going to be easy at all for him."

Bozell said he is supporting Cruz.

"There are some very good conservatives in this race. There are half a dozen I could support. Some of them enthusiastically, but there is only one for … whom I have no questions," Bozell told Steve Malzberg.

"Since Ronald Reagan, we have been playing with Republican presidencies when they go on a campaign trail and they promise one thing and they go to Washington and they do another.

"In the House and the Senate, you're seeing it from all the leaders. You know with Ted Cruz what he says he's going to do, he's going to do."

Asked about Donald Trump's skyrocketing popularity and position as the Republican frontrunner, Bozell said:

"I don't know, by all accounts and measures, he has gone further than people thought. I thought after his comments that he made about Sen. [John] McCain, I thought he was toast. And veterans supported him on this.

"It's just I keep saying that this bubble is going to burst. It hasn't so far, but when he's making statements now like he did about Planned Parenthood where he would fund some of the good things Planned Parenthood does, that makes you wonder …"

Bozell's Virginia-based group is a politically conservative content analysis organization.
