John Kasich may have won his state's primary on Tuesday, but the governor has no "shot of getting the nomination at all," conservative journalist Bre Payton told Newsmax TV.

"He won the delegates in Ohio, but going forward in order to lock up the number that he needs, he is going to have to lock up 83 percent of all the remaining delegates, which we know is not going to happen," Payton, staff writer at The Federalist, told host Steve Malzberg on Newsmax TV's "America Votes: 2016" in an interview.

"His best path at possibly getting the nomination would be through contested convention, but could you imagine what would happen in the aftermath of what that would be if we had a contested convention — and then the GOP named Kasich as the Republican nominee? That would be a disaster.

"This is a guy who so far has only been able to get something like 17 percent of the delegates," she told Malzberg. "That would be ridiculous.

"So, I don't see the nomination as a possibility at all in his future."
