Ex-Justice Lawyer: Holder Resignation Was Carefully Timed

Friday, 26 September 2014 08:07 PM EDT

Attorney General Eric Holder's resignation was carefully timed so that Democrats have the chance to influence his replacement, former Department of Justice lawyer J. Christian Adams told Newsmax TV on Friday.

"Holder's wanted to go for a while now. There were rumors he was going to resign before election, but he's too important to the president and he got talked into staying," Adams told Joe Concha, guest host of Newsmax's "The Steve Malzberg Show."

"Now, with the Senate possible changing hands, this is their last best chance to possibly get a replacement for Holder who is just as radical as he is.

"After January, there might be a new Senate and people like [Republican Sens.] Jeff Sessions and Ted Cruz will have a lot to say about who the new attorney general would be."

Republicans are pressing President Barack Obama not to appoint a replacement for Holder during the current session of Congress, despite the White House's signal it intends to fill the post swiftly.

According to The Hill, conservative lawmakers say any nominee would be under intense scrutiny after years of battles with the Justice Department on a range of issues.

Adams — current counsel and contributing writer for the Election Law Center, and the whistleblower who exposed alleged racial bias in Holder's office — believes the attorney general was obsessed with race.

"Holder talks about race constantly. Race, race, race all the time…. [There] is literally a quote he's been carrying in his wallet that, 'Blackness bonds the black man,'" Adams said.

"When he was asked about it to the Washington Post, he talked about these common bonds and he said he shares them even with the black criminal.

"Sometimes you don't even have to read between the lines with this guy. Sometimes he makes it totally plain that race is the predominant item in his agenda."

He said that ultimately, Holder used his office to further his power.

"Power is an end in itself to this crowd to people like Eric Holder. The government is a natural 'home field advantage' for him," Adams said.

"Holder is our Founders' worst nightmare. He is the man who would corrupt the rule of law to achieve partisan and radical political goals."
