Pollster Matt Towery: Trump Must Turn Out Voters to Win Iowa

By    |   Thursday, 28 January 2016 06:07 PM EST

Ted Cruz does have a "great ground game" in Iowa, but Donald Trump faces the challenge of turning out more voters to the Iowa caucuses on Monday, pollster Matt Towery told Newsmax TV on Thursday.

"People who are 18 to 29 years old are overwhelmingly for Trump," Towery told "Newsmax Prime" host J.D. Hayworth. "They don't usually vote. They usually don't turn out.

"They turned out and got excited for Barack Obama back eight years ago. Whether this is going to happen on the Trump side or not, we don't know.

"If that doesn't happen," Towery cautioned, "Cruz's ground game will control.

"If that does happen or even if it gets close — and we're going to realize that when you get out of Iowa and into areas like New Hampshire, South Carolina, than those SCC primary states [in March] — Trump is probably going to be in a better position than we expected."
