Author: I Died and Saw God During Surgery

By    |   Friday, 01 November 2013 06:07 PM EDT

A young woman who was clinically dead for nine minutes before miraculously coming back to life says her faith was renewed when she briefly transported to heaven and met God.

"I was a skeptic … I was not an atheist, I was just a doubter," Crystal McVea told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

McVea, coauthor of "Waking Up in Heaven: A True Story of Brokenness, Heaven, and Life Again," was in the hospital for a medical procedure in 2009 when she went into full respiratory arrest.

"I remember closing my eyes and the moment that I closed my eyes on Earth was the exact moment that I opened them in heaven. The amazing and beautiful thing about that instant was that there was no question of where I was," McVea said.

"Instantly I knew that I was standing in the presence of angels … [in] the most beautiful tunnel of light that I could ever try to describe to you. I use the color white but only because that's the closest color to purity that we have here on this Earth."

McVea says time seemed to slow down and suddenly she was in the company of the creator.

"There were no minutes or hours, there was no rush … I recognized that I was in the presence of God," she recalled.

"I fell to my knees in worship of him, I lifted my hands, and the first question I said was why didn't I do more for you? Because, instantly, he had shown me his beauty and his power and his love.

"I was so saddened with the fact that I hadn't done more in His name while I had been here."
