Washington Examiner's Klein: President Lied to Pass Obamacare

Monday, 04 November 2013 05:59 PM EST

President Barack Obama had to lie to Americans, telling them that they could keep their current health plans under the Affordable Care Act, because it was the only way he could get the law passed, says Phillip Klein, a senior writer for The Washington Examiner.

"The reason why he said it is pretty clear. Democrats have been trying to push some sort of national healthcare program for decades and decades, and one of the problems that they've routinely run into is the fact that most people are pretty happy with their personal healthcare situation," Klein told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

Story continues below video.

"The trick always was . . . can you sort of convince these people that when you change the system to make it work better for all these other people, that it won't affect the people who are happy with the type of coverage that they have," he said Monday.

Klein said one chief reason the Clinton administration's healthcare effort failed was that people were worried about how it would affect them personally.

"That's why Obama decided to make this lie up," he said.
