CNBC host and civil-rights firebrand Al Sharpton is "nothing but a publicity hound," says Michael Meyers, president and executive director of the New York Civil Rights Coalition.
"We know that. He goes wherever the media is and the media goes wherever he is. They love him," Meyers told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.
"They love this guy because he gives them comic relief."

His comments Monday came after Sharpton held a town hall meeting in Chicago's Hyde Park on Thursday to address gun violence — a forum that turned into an angry discussion in which the problem was linked to unemployment in the Windy City.
Meyers said the media practice a kind of "reverse racism" when it comes to Sharpton.
"They look at Al Sharpton as if he is the authentic black, the only authentic black, the only voice for black America," he said.
"So, it is ironic that he would have that summit in Chicago about anti-gun, anti-violence when his own organization's motto is No Justice, No Peace. You got to laugh at these fools, these are demagogues."
