Kentucky Democratic candidate Alison Lundergan Grimes has enlisted the help of former President Bill Clinton for a TV campaign ad as she battles to close the gap in her race against Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.
"What's being a senator about, anyway?" Clinton says in a 30-second ad that will air in the state on Thursday. "One candidate believes it's about getting new jobs, getting good jobs, giving middle-class people a chance to give their kids a decent life."

"I choose Alison because she will work people from both parties to do what is right for you," he said on his first TV spot in this election cycle.
Clinton, whose approval ratings in Kentucky reportedly top President Barack Obama's, has appeared regularly on the campaign trail in Kentucky to support Grimes, including a visit in August.
The ex-president has been a longtime friend of Grimes' father Jerry Lundergan, a former Kentucky Democratic Party chairman and state representative, since Clinton's days as the governor of Arkansas, according to

A recent poll by
Real Clear Politics showed Grimes was trailing her GOP incumbent rival by 47 percent to 42 percent, and The Hill says she is hoping that the Clinton ad will boost her chances.
