Tennessee Sen. Bob Corker Monday played down any speculation that he was being considered as Donald Trump's running mate, telling reporters that "I have no reason whatsoever to believe that I'm being considered for a position like that."

"I'll say that until I'm blue in my face," Corker, who met with the presumptive Republican nominee, said outside Trump Tower in New York City. "This was a meeting between two people who didn't know each other except for phone calls."

Corker, 63, the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, has been denying speculation about a Trump ticket in recent weeks. The developer has said that he was considering a running mate with foreign affairs experience and an ability to maneuver Washington.

"I was up here last Monday meeting with Henry Kissinger," said Corker, who is in his second term. "I'm in New York a good deal.

"I think it's worthwhile to sit down and get to know the nominee in a little bit different way. We did that today."
