Gallup Poll: Only 18 Percent of Americans Approve of Congress

With a little over three weeks left before Election Day, less than one-fifth of Americans approve of the job Congress is doing, according to a Gallup poll released Wednesday.

The survey showed that Congress has just an 18 percent approval among American voters.

The rating, which has been low for years now, has not crossed 25 percent since 2009.
Job approval of the Congress has varied between 18 and 21 percent in the previous final pre-election polls in 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2014, according to the poll.

Though the GOP controls both the House and Senate, approval from Republicans was less than Democrats. Only 14 percent of Republicans approved of the job done by Congress compared to 22 percent of Democrats.

The poll, which was conducted between Oct. 5 and 9, surveyed 1,017 adults. It has a margin of sampling error of 4 percentage points.
