Kansas City Royals fans were hit with a grand-slam political endorsement during Tuesday night's game as Hall of Famer George Brett appeared to endorse Donald Trump for president.
During an appearance in the broadcast booth at the Royals-Red Sox game, Brett, a dyed-in-the-wool Republican, said that a lot of his friends are hoping the GOP will get behind Trump.
"Me, included," Brett added, according to a video posted on
Scoopnest.com.
Brett's quip came as Ryan Lefebvre joked that since there is no "broadcast experience" to offer for a Royals charity auction, he and fellow announcer Rex Hudler supported a "George Brett batting clinic," much like a defeated candidate supports a favorite.
"That's very nice, that's very nice," the legendary third baseman and designated hitter responded.
"A lot of my friends are hoping the Republican Party does that with Donald Trump — me, included."
Twitter immediately lit up with mixed reactions to Brett's announcement.
