Potential presidential candidate Hillary Clinton is planning a nationwide campaign offensive to help Democratic candidates in the midterm elections in a bid to keep control of the Senate.
Citing details of her hectic schedule in the next four weeks,
Politico reports that her stops will include, Kentucky, North Carolina, Colorado, and Georgia, as well as the early presidential states of Iowa and New Hampshire.
Although she's allotted time to spend time with her new grand-daughter Charlotte and for book signings and House campaigns, the former First Lady is concentrating on helping vulnerable Democrats who are in the middle of tough races ahead of Election Day.
"Hillary knows firsthand the importance of keeping our majority in the Senate and I couldn't be happier that she is helping us turn out the Democratic vote," said Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada.
Clinton, who will be the presumed frontrunner if she joins the White House race in 2016, has signed up for a
fundraiser in California on October 20 to help the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, which will be hosted by movie mogul Jeffrey Katzenberg.
"Secretary Clinton will be a great motivator to get Democrats out to the polls which is always critical in a midterm election," DSCC executive director Guy Cecil said. "She is also the perfect person to speak directly to women and independent voters across the country about what is at stake, from women's health to giving everyone a fair shot at success."
She's placing special importance on helping Democrat Allison Lundergan Grimes in her battle to unseat Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell in Kentucky. And the former secretary of state plans to visit Iowa to campaign for Democratic Senate contender Bruce Braley and congressional candidate Staci Appel, Politico said.
Clinton will also stump for embattled incumbent Sens. Kay Hagan in North Carolina and Mark Udall in Colorado, and she's making time to aid Michelle Nunn in Georgia. On her busy itinerary, Clinton is scheduled to visit New Hampshire in support of Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, a longtime friend, as well as Gov. Maggie Hassan.
"She is working to help Democrats win in order to help protect core Democratic values. That is the goal," Clinton spokesman Nick Merrill said.
The Democratic Party has a majority of 55-45 seats over the GOP, although
Republicans are expecting to capture the chamber on November 4.
Although Clinton has no plans to join Arkansas Sen. Mark Pryor before the elections, former President Bill Clinton is flying out there next week to trumpet their longtime friend. However, Hillary Clinton will host a fundraiser for Pryor in New York City next week, Politico says.
She also has set aside time to help Democratic gubernatorial hopefuls, including stumping for Gov. Pat Quinn in Illinois and a trip to Massachusetts for Martha Coakley. And Clinton will host a public fundraiser in Philadelphia for Democratic gubernatorial nominee Tom Wolf.
While she's in California for the DSCC fundraiser, the same day she will host a women-focused fundraiser with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, according to Politico.
"Hillary Clinton's message and presence at our events and on our behalf have lifted our efforts to a whole new level — adding new luster to our campaign," said Pelosi. "And the fact that she has joined us as a new grandmother makes it joyful, indeed."
