President Donald Trump continued his slamming of the media into late hours on Friday, tweeting that the "fake news media" was a "great danger to our country" — singling out CNN and The New York Times.

Trump tweeted:

The tweet came at the end of a long day of the Trump administration bashing the media, starting with the president's broad attack at the Conservative Political Action Conference at National Harbor near Washington.

Trump called the media "dishonest" and "phony" — adding that his administration planned to "do something about" the "fake news" reports about him, though the president did not elaborate.

Then, White House spokesman Sean Spicer excluded the Times, CNN — along with Politico, BuzzFeed and several other foreign news outlets — from an afternoon press gaggle that he held instead of his regular daily briefing.

Spicer justified the action by saying that the Trump administration was going to "push back" against false reporting.

"It was my decision to decide to expand the pool," Spicer told the smaller group of reporters. "We are going to aggressively push back.

"We're just not going to sit back and let, you know, false narratives, false stories, inaccurate facts get out there."
