RNC Chair Ronna Romney McDaniel Gives Trump an 'A'

The chair of the Republican National Committee agrees with President Donald Trump's self-assessment of his presidency so far.

"He is doing a great job," Ronna Romney McDaniel told Fox News on Tuesday. "He has a lot of obstacles. I give him an A. He is coming to the American people tonight to give his message directly to them and to Congress. That's an A move to me."

McDaniel was referencing Trump's speech in front of a joint session of Congress on Tuesday night, during which he is expected to talk about the "renewal of the American spirit."

McDaniel, who began her RNC job Jan. 19 after her predecessor Reince Priebus was named White House chief of staff, said Democrats are hindering Trump's progress as he embarks on a journey he hopes will result in a better America.

"The obstruction of the Democrats, not working with this president, not giving him time to seat his cabinet or to listen to his message or to work with him, that is a problem that he has dealt with from Day 1," she said. "Something that Barack Obama never had. Why aren't the Democrats giving this president a chance?

"Seventy-three percent of Americans have said they want to see Democrats work with Republicans. He's going to lay out an optimistic vision for this country tonight, and we need Democrats to work with Republicans to help American families."

McDaniel works in the nation's capital during the week and commutes home to Michigan on the weekends. She told Fox's Bill Hemmer people in her hometown seem to appreciate what Trump has done so far in the Oval Office.

"I go to the grocery store, I go to the gas station, and people are so pleased they finally have somebody in the White House who is championing the average American," she said.

"The Democratic Party has become the party of the coastal elite and the Republican Party is the party of the working class, and that average American citizen who's been struggling over the past eight years with Obama in the White House."
