Scott Walker First of GOP Hopefuls to Open Iowa Office

By    |   Tuesday, 10 February 2015 04:12 PM EST

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker is reportedly the first 2016 presidential hopeful to open an office in Iowa, the home of the first primary caucus.

Walker's organization Our American Revival has leased a space in Urbandale, just outside of Des Moines, which has previously been occupied by other presidential candidates, including former Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann and 2008 presidential candidate Arizona Sen. John McCain, The Des Moines Register is reporting.

This marks another sign that the Wisconsin Republican is likely to run for president in 2016, although the Our American Revival group is saying that the new office is really meant to signal a transfer of power from those in Washington to the people and the states.

An adviser told the Register that the goal is "to engage with the citizens of Iowa."

While Walker is the first potential candidate to rent office space in The Hawkeye State, there are other draft groups there with offices who are pushing for particular candidates to run such as retired pediatric neurosurgeon and Republican Ben Carson and Democrat Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren.

The Wisconsin Republican's political profile was raised following a fiery speech he gave at the Iowa Freedom Summit on Jan. 24, in which political analysts said he buried the boring label.

Our American Revival, set up the week after the summit, is a fundraising committee that is typically the precursor to a campaign for candidates.
