White House press secretary Sean Spicer sharply criticized the federal judge who issued a ruling halting President Donald Trump's executive order on immigration.
"It's somewhat sad to see a judge go rogue like this," Spicer told Fox News' "Fox & Friends" program on Monday.
"The law is very clear that the president has broad powers to keep this country safe and limit access to people that can come into this country," Spicer said.
"He utilized that power in a very legal, constitutional manner to ensure that we are safe. Our people are safe, our country is safe, our institutions are safe," he added.
"It's a shame that we're not focused more on making sure we're applauding the decision by the president to make a renewed focus on keeping this country safe."
A federal appeals court on Sunday denied the Department of Justice's request to restore Trump's order barring refugees and people from seven predominately Muslim countries from entering the U.S., The Hill reports.
Spicer also dismissed protests around the country against Trump's policies, telling "Fox & Friends" that "protesting has become a profession now . . . It is not these organic uprisings that we've seen through the last several decades.
"The tea party was a very organic movement. This has become a very paid astroturf-type movement."
On a lighter note, Spicer said the "Saturday Night Live" spoof of him was "cute and funny… and it's part of American culture," but said "I would rather talk about the issues."
