Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Richard Burr, R-N.C., says he is skeptical about a memo reportedly describing President Donald Trump's request for FBI Director James Comey to drop the probe of former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn.
Burr said Tuesday night it seems unlikely the fired FBI chief would not have mentioned the memo in a meeting with the North Carolina Republican the day before Comey was fired, the Washington Examiner reported.
"I actually believe the director might have told us that there'd been a request like that, and it was never mentioned by him," Burr said, the Examiner reported. "So, somebody's going to have to do more than have anonymous sources on this one for me to believe that there's something there."
Burr is leading a probe into Russian interference in the 2016 elections along with Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va.
"The director of the FBI shared more information with Sen. Warner and myself than any director has ever shared," he said.
"I think something as material as that probably would have been something he would have shared, had it happened."
