In his presidential campaign's first fundraising email, Donald Trump said Tuesday he will match donations he receives by Thursday up to $2 million.
According to
The Wall Street Journal, Trump wrote he will make the "first fundraising email I have ever sent on behalf of my campaign the most successful introductory fundraising email in modern political history by personally matching every dollar that comes in WITHIN THE NEXT 48 HOURS, up to $2 million!"
Trump financed his own primary campaign and has steered clear of sending out fundraising emails. He came to an agreement with the
Republican National Committee in May to begin raising money for both Trump's presidential campaign and other Republicans running for office.
The maximum amount individual donors are allowed to give directly to presidential campaigns is $2,700.
The Trump campaign raised just
$3.1 million last month and ended June with $1.3 million in the bank, far less than Democrat Hillary Clinton's haul of $27 million. At month's end, Clinton had $42 million in available cash.
Trump is meeting with
conservative Christians Tuesday in New York, and he will attend an RNC fundraiser in the evening, according to the Journal.
New York Jets owner Woody Johnson and others will host another fundraiser Wednesday morning.
Trump dismissed concerns about his cash on hand Tuesday,
"There could be unlimited 'cash on hand,' as I would put up my own money, as I have already done through the primaries, spending over $50 million dollars," Trump said in a statement,
Politico reported.
