Presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump has lashed out at
The New York Times for an article the newspaper ran accusing the business mogul of disrespectful treatment toward women.
Trump sent out numerous Twitter comments on the article, such as "Everyone is laughing at the @nytimes for the lame hit piece they did on me and women" and "the failing @nytimes wrote yet another hit piece on me."
He also accused the newspaper in the tweets of not interviewing women he had helped and that the Times ignores Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton's treatment of women. The article does mention women who said Trump helped them, and the newspaper has done several stories on accusations against Clinton on the subject.
In the article, The New York Times spoke with more than 50 women who had worked with Trump, dated him or interacted with him socially. Many of those interviewed described Trump's "unsettling" comments about their appearance and what they described as inappropriate behavior, such as being kissed on the mouth the first time they met. The article, however, also described how Trump helped advance the career of many other women.
Other media outlets were also focusing on Trump's problem with female voters.
CBS News reports that only 19 percent of registered women view him favorably, and 69 percent unfavorably. In explaining their view, many women said they thought he was rude, insulting and disrespectful.
The same CBS report also said that Clinton, despite a wide advantage over Trump with female voters, is, nonetheless perceived by them as being not necessarily honest and resent her using the gender card.
Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus defended Trump on Sunday talk shows, saying that voters do not make judgements on Trump based on his personal life.
