President Donald Trump must "clearly outline" the bill he envisions to deal with a program protecting 800,000 young illegal immigrants — and due to end in six months unless Congress acts, Sen. Marco Rubio says.
In a statement Tuesday, the Florida Republican said, "We have no time to waste on ideas that do not have the votes to pass or that the president won't sign."
"Congress now has less than six months to deal with this the right way, through the legislative process," Rubio said. "It is important that the White House clearly outline what kind of legislation the president is willing to sign."
Rubio added that he's "long supported accommodating those brought to this country illegally through no fault of their own," but faulted President Barack Obama's executive action to protect so-called dreamers as "unconstitutional."
"The right way to address this issue was through legislation," he declared.
His statement came after Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program for young immigrants would be rescinded, setting a deadline for Congress to come up with a solution.
