Businessman Donald Trump has a slight edge over Texas Sen. Ted Cruz in the latest Public Policy Polling results for Iowa, less than three weeks before that state's caucuses.

The poll talked to likely caucus voters.

Here are the results:
  • Donald Trump: 28 percent
  • Ted Cruz: 26 percent
  • Marco Rubio: 13 percent
  • Ben Carson: 8 percent
  • Jeb Bush: 6 percent
  • Chris Christie, Carly Fiorina, Mike Huckabee, John Kasich and Rand Paul: 3 percent
  • Rick Santorum: 2 percent
  • Jim Gilmore: Less than 1 percent
Cruz has led Iowa in recent polls, but the PPP analysis said Cruz could potentially be damaged by recent questions over the fact he was born in Canada.

Only 32 percent of them believe someone born in another country should be allowed to serve as president, while 47 percent believe such a person should be prohibited.

Only 46 percent of Iowans are aware Cruz was not born in the United States, according to the poll.

Cruz has called the controversy a non-issue, saying that since his mother was an American citizen, that makes him a natural-born American as required by the Constitution.

On the Democratic side, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders is closing in on former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
  • Hillary Clinton: 46 percent
  • Bernie Sanders: 40 percent
  • Martin O'Malley: 8 percent
The poll talked to 1,901 registered voters, including 580 likely Democratic caucus voters and 530 likely Republican caucus voters, January 8-10. The margin of error is plus-or-minus 4.1 percent for the Democrats and 4.3 percent for the Republicans.
