Ed Klein: Clinton Legal Adviser Cautions Her to Get Attorney

By    |   Saturday, 03 October 2015 09:19 PM EDT

A longtime legal adviser to Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton said she needed to obtain a criminal defense attorney in case she is indicted in the email scandal, best-selling conservative author Ed Klein reported Saturday.

"Hillary needs to secure the services of an expert legal counsel — preferably a big-league defense attorney from the Republican side of the aisle," the adviser told Klein for an article published in The New York Post. "She needs someone to find out whether the FBI and Justice Department are likely to conclude that she’s violated federal laws governing national security."

Klein described the individual as one of Bill and Hillary Clinton's "oldest and most trusted legal advisers" who "has been a Clinton confidant for more than 30 years."

"Frankly," the adviser told Klein, "I am used to my advice on legal matters being taken very seriously and acted upon by the Clintons. I’ve told them repeatedly that this FBI e-mail investigation could go in a very dangerous direction very quickly.

"I think Bill takes the matter seriously," the person added. "But Hillary is still acting as though it’s a political smear job by right-wing zealots."

The State Department released new emails this week in the investigation of the use of her private account and server during Hillary Clinton's four years as Secretary of State.

The documents included a fake traffic ticket that was traced to Russia-linked hackers. It was not clear whether Clinton opened the email.

Clinton is scheduled to testify later this month before the special House committee investigating the 2012 Benghazi attacks that killed four Americans.
