Rep. Luis Gutierrez, D-Ill., an advocate for immigration reform, is expected to announce on Tuesday he will not seek re-election, Politico is reporting.
Gutierrez was first elected to Congress in 1993 and will formally endorse Jesus "Chuy" Garcia for the seat, according to the website.
Fox News said it has confirmed Gutierrez, a frequent critic of the Trump administration, will retire. The 63-year-old lawmaker has been a vocal proponent of providing aid to hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico.
The news network also noted he had been arrested in New York this year for protesting President Donald Trump's strict immigration enforcement policy.
The lawmaker's spokesman, Douglas Rivlin, declined comment, Politico reported.
