Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid said that despite 11 hours of eye surgery he cannot see out of his right eye, Politico reported.

The Nevada Democrat was badly injured when his regular workout routine went frightfully wrong and he found himself catapulted into a bathroom cabinet.

"No, I'm over that, 'cause I can't see out of my eye, and that's the way it's going to be until something comes along that'll change it. Right now, I've had 11 hours of surgery. They've tried. I can't see out of my right eye. And that's OK, I can live with that," Reid told Spanish-language broadcaster Jorge Ramos on Univision.

The 75 year-old Reid said he is coping with his condition. He has said that he finds stairs difficult because his depth perception is distorted.

The senator is also somewhat unsteady on his feet, according to The New York Times.

The accident took place in Reid's Henderson, Nevada, home in January. On March 27 he announced that he would not seek re-election, insisting that he had made up his mind to retire before the calamity.

He is committed to insuring that a Democrat succeed him in the Senate but has not endorsed anyone.
