Heidi Cruz, the wife of Texas senator and GOP presidential hopeful Ted Cruz, said Tuesday she didn't have to worry about the insulting retweet that front-runner Donald Trump made about her because she doesn't use Twitter.
"One great thing about me, Megyn, is I don't tweet," Cruz told Megyn Kelly, host of Fox News Channel's
"The Kelly File."
"I have an ability to completely ignore it," she said, "and I think we have a pattern of behavior here that when Donald Trump is falling behind – it's interesting the timing of that was right before Ted's sweeping victory in Utah."
Trump retweeted two photos of Heidi Cruz and his own wife, Melania Trump. Melania Trump, a former model, was shown in a flattering pose while Heidi Cruz was caught in the middle of talking.
Trump made the retweet shortly after a super PAC unfriendly to him posted a picture of his then-fiance Melania lying naked on a rug with a caption warning conservative Utah voters she could be their next first lady.
Trump denied any involvement in the ad and noted that the same super PAC has previously attacked him.
"You and my dear friend Carly [Fiorina] have been the object of some of Donald's criticisms," Heidi Cruz told Kelly. "But I know why we're running this race. It's not for Donald Trump, it's for the voters of this country. So it gives me a lot of strength, and I have to honestly say it didn't impact me in the least."
As for Trump's threat to "spill the beans" on her, Cruz said, "So many things that Donald Trump says and engages in have no basis in reality. I know my track record. I know my life record. Didn't bother me a bit."
Kelly also asked Cruz about the National Enquirer story alleging her husband had carried on multiple extra-marital affairs.
"It's garbage," Cruz said.
