Ted Cruz and John Kasich's alliance to keep Donald Trump from winning the GOP presidential nomination isn't likely to work — and is misdirected, says one of their former rivals, Mike Huckabee.
"It looks like they are more interested in stopping Trump than stopping Hillary" Clinton, the likely Democratic nominee, Huckabee said Monday on Fox News Channel's
"On the Record with Greta Van Susteren."
"I think it's going to be very difficult for Cruz and Kasich, even teaming up, to overcome the momentum that Donald Trump has going into tomorrow and then coming out of it," Huckabee said of Trump's expected victories in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, Connecticut and Rhode Island.
Neither Cruz nor Kasich can win enough delegates to secure the nomination before this summer's GOP convention, but the two campaigns announced Sunday night they plan to step out of each other's way in some upcoming states in an effort keep Trump from reaching the magic number of 1,237 delegates as well.
Huckabee noted that Cruz weeks ago called on Kasich to drop out of the race because he already has been mathematically eliminated, and now Cruz is in the same boat.
"Will Ted Cruz drop out of the race because he doesn't have a pathway?" Huckabee asked.
