Sally Boynton Brown 'Drastically Different' Candidate for DNC Post

Sally Boynton Brown 'Drastically Different' Candidate for DNC Post

By    |   Thursday, 29 December 2016 08:31 AM EST

Idaho Democratic Party Executive Director Sally Boynton Brown is pitching herself as the ultimate outsider as she vies to become the Democratic National Committee chief, The Hill reports.

The website notes she doesn't have the national ties of Labor Secretary Tom Perez and Minnesota Rep. Keith Ellison, who are regarded as leading candidates for the DNC post.

And, it adds, she doesn't have the DNC ties of New Hampshire party chair Raymond Buckley and South Carolina state party chair Jaime Harrison, two of the other candidates.

Boynton Brown, the only woman in the race, calls herself a "drastically different type of candidate."

"I think we need someone who knows how to manage people and processes along with that," Boynton Brown told the Hill.

She has served as executive director for the Idaho Democratic Party since 2012 and was the state party's interim director and communications director before that. Prior to entering the political arena, Boynton Brown spent 13 years working in childcare.

"I always joke and say if I can control a room of 100 toddlers, 100 Democrats is really not an issue. But I mean that quite seriously." she told the Hill.

"With kids, we don't try to change them, we just take the kid that's in front of us and figure out how we can do what needs to be done. With kids, it's getting dressed. With Democrats, it's 'How do I get money, get on message, how do we all get on the same page so that we can move together?'"

The Washington Examiner notes that President Barack Obama has backed away from making any endorsement for the DNC chair.

"…I don't have a vote in it," Obama said. "We'll let the process of unfold."
