A one-time aide to President Ronald Reagan says Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has the traits of a "conservative" Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
"Without doubt the Forgotten Man is a centerpiece of the Trump campaign and would most assuredly be the focus of a Trump presidency," Jeffery Lord, an associate political director under the nation's 40th president,
writes in American Spectator.
"Which is another way of saying that Donald Trump may in fact turn out to be not another Reagan — but the conservative version of Franklin D. Roosevelt."
Roosevelt, a Democrat, served as president from 1933 to 1945 and led the nation through the Great Depression with his "New Deal," a series of social programs that helped stabilize the economy and create new jobs.
"The GOP is in the process of discovering that with the nomination of Donald Trump — to borrow from FDR's famous theme song — ‘Happy Days Are Here Again,''' says Lord, who is a contributing editor at the Spectator.
