Louisiana Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu is being outpaced in fundraising by a potential Republican challenger, Rep. Bill Cassidy, the
New Orleans Times-Picayune reported Tuesday.
Landrieu, who has indicated she plans to seek a fourth term in 2014, raised just under $200,000 and had $1.2 million in cash on hand in the first quarter of 2012, the paper said.
Cassidy, who is currently running unopposed for a third term representing Louisiana’s 6th District in the U.S. House, raised about $210,000 in the first quarter and had $1.6 million in the bank, the Times-Picayune said.
While there’s a long way to go before the 2014 election, some observers see Cassidy’s fundraising as an indication he may decide to go after Landrieu’s seat.
