Lindsey Graham: McCain Was 'Forgetful' Before Blood Clot Surgery

Sen. John McCain had been "forgetful" before he had a blood clot removed from his brain last week, Sen. Lindsey Graham said Monday.

"I think it's a routine check but John had not been feeling good. He had been traveling a lot, wrote it off to being tired, that he was being forgetful just traveling around the world," Graham told CNN. "I'm glad they found what I think was the cause."

When asked to clarify whether he believed the blood clot was the cause of McCain's memory issues, Graham said, "Yes, I think so. I talked to him Sunday [and he was] just like the old John McCain and [was] much more engaged in conversation."

McCain, who turns 81 next month, appeared to be confused and fatigued while he was questioning former FBI director James Comey during a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing last month, which resulted in a Twitterstorm of questions.

McCain later blamed the episode on being tired from staying up late the previous night watching baseball.
