Rep. Marsha Blackburn said Monday morning Donald Trump's proposed ban on Muslims needs to happen until U.S. authorities can figure out who is coming into the country.

"You need to have this halt and make certain that we know who's coming in, we know what their purposes are," the Tennessee Republican said on Fox News' "Fox & Friends" program.

"The Office of Refugee Resettlement loses track of individuals that are coming in."

Blackburn added that churches, for example, who take in refugees should be aware of who and what they're dealing with.

"Many of our churches that are involved in missions and outreach and resettlement, they want to make certain that the individuals that are coming in are first of all who they say they are," she said. "And secondly, that they are not individuals that are involved with terrorism."

Blackburn's interview began with a discussion about the death of legendary University of Tennessee women's basketball coach Pat Summitt, who Blackburn called "such a role model for young women."

"I appreciated so much the fact that she continued to be supportive of young women, of exercising leadership and of developing their skills," Blackburn said. "She knew how a girl could take the skills from the court, playing basketball, and utilize those to expand their career."

Regarding Hillary Clinton, Blackburn said the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee "can't be trusted. She is totally out of touch with mainstream America and Main Street."
