Rep. Mo Brooks Enters Alabama Senate Race

Rep. Mo Brooks jumped into the Republican race for the U.S. Senate seat from Alabama, the Montgomery Advertiser reported.

"I am running for the United States Senate because America's status as the greatest nation in world history is at risk, because Congress is failing the American people by not rising to the challenges America faces, and because I am the only candidate for the Senate who has a record of proven conservative leadership," he said.

Brooks, who was to officially announced his candidacy on Monday, will face off in the Aug. 15 primary with Sen. Luther Strange, R-Ala. Strange was appointed to the seat by then-Gov. Robert Bentley, The Hill reported.

At least three other Republicans are making a bid to see who will face the Democratic candidate in December, the website said.

Strange's appointment came after the seat was vacated when President Donald Trump named Jeff Sessions as attorney general, according to The Hill. At least two Democrats have also announced for the seat.
