It turns out the Affordable Care Act is not so affordable for Americans, a point not lost on Democrats.
In the wake of a report that showed Obamacare premiums could increase as much as 25 percent for many Americans, it's becoming clear the law is not following its own pledge to make healthcare affordable for everyone.
According to The Hill, 15 percent of Obamacare customers do not qualify for subsidies that keep their premiums down. That means their rates are skyrocketing — and Republicans are jumping on that fact.
GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump said Tuesday morning Obamacare has been a "disaster" since it was signed into law six years ago.
"This plan can't work," Trump said. "It was a big lie. That is how [President Barack Obama] got it passed. He said, 'Keep your doctor, keep your plan,' turned out to be a lie. Said it 28 different times. It is terrible plan. It is disgrace we have to talk about, frankly."
Trump said Democrat Hillary Clinton wants to raise taxes in order to keep the healthcare law afloat.
Clinton herself admitted in the second presidential debate the law needs to be changed.
"I'm going to fix it," Clinton said. "I want very much to save what works and what is good about the ACA. But we've got to get costs down."
Former President Bill Clinton called the healthcare law "the craziest thing in the world" earlier this month.
Minnesota Gov. Mark Dayton, a Democrat, made a stunning admission earlier this month: "The reality is the Affordable Care Act is no longer affordable for increasing numbers of people."
Last week, Obama said criticisms of the law coming from Republicans are merely politics.
"It's worked," Obama said of the law.
