Billionaire PayPal cofounder Peter Thiel is donating $1.25 million to Donald Trump's campaign, reports say.
According to the New York Times, Thiel — one of Trump's most prominent supporters in Silicon Valley — will direct the money through a combination of super PAC donations and funds funneled directly to the campaign.
Thiel, who spoke in support of the GOP nominee at the Republican National Convention — also declaring himself "proud to be gay" — becomes one of the biggest Trump contributors with his donation, the Times reports.
Robert Mercer, of the hedge fund Renaissance Technologies, and his daughter Rebekah Mercer have given $15.5 million in support of the Republican candidate’s election, the Center for Responsive Politics shows, and Los Angeles developer Geoffrey Palmer has donated $2 million.
Thiel was one of the earliest investors in Facebook and currently is on the company's board; he's also made investments in Zynga, Reddit and Asana, according to CNN Money, which also reported news of the Trump donation.
