The approval rating of Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., has dropped after allegations of sexual harassment, according to a KSTP/Survey USA poll.

His approval rating is at 36 percent — down from 53 percent in Nov. 2016, according to KSTP.

In a poll conducted after a second woman's allegations against Franken were made public:

  • 22 percent said Franken should stay in office.
  • 33 percent called for Franken to resign.
  • 36 percent said Franken should wait for Senate Ethics Committee investigation results.
  • If Franken remains in office, 37 percent believe he would be ineffective, compared to 32 percent who say otherwise.

No demographic group in the poll said Franken should stay in office, said Carleton College political scientist Steven Schier, according to KSTP.

The poll was conducted among 600 Minnesotans across the state, with a margin of error of plus or minus 4.1 percent, KSTP reported. The poll respondents included 23 percent who identified as Republicans, 25 percent as Democrats, and 44 percent who said they were independents.

After more allegations of misconduct surfaced, Franken issued another apology on Thursday.
