Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., said Thursday that he would rather use money in the U.S. that has been sent to countries such as Pakistan.
"I would take the money that we send to a lot of countries that aren't necessarily our friends like Pakistan, I would redirect that money into building roads and bridges here," Paul said Thursday on "Fox & Friends."
"I have a bill that I will introduce next week that will take the about $2 billion we spend in Pakistan, let's spend it in the United States… let's spend some of that money here at home, let's don't give it to people who hate us and burn our flag and chant 'Death to America,'" Paul said.
The senator said he would rather have another country pay for items rather than be given them. "I think it's a real disservice to them (U.S. soldiers) to give money to a government that may be cooperating with people who are killing our soldiers, so no. Pakistan at best is a frenemy," Paul said.
He also noted that Osama Bin Laden lived in Pakistan and the country has jailed Christians, "so no, they're not really our friend."
Paul tweeted Tuesday that he wanted to try again with a bill to defund Pakistan this year.
