Billionaire businessman Donald Trump broadly slammed President Barack Obama to the National Rifle Association on Friday as "incompetent," said the president "doesn't know what he's doing," and suggested that he and his staff read one of Trump's books before further negotiating a nuclear deal with Iran.
"We have negotiators who truly have no clue. You look at what's going on with this crazy deal," Trump told about 5,000 people at the association's Leadership Forum as part of the NRA's annual convention in Nashville, Tennessee.
He then referenced his 1987 book,
"Trump: The Art of the Deal," saying that it needed to be required reading at the White House because of the "tremendously, horrible, inconceivable" framework deal with Tehran.
"It's going to make Iran a nuclear power," Trump said. "You're going to have proliferation all over the place. Everybody is going to want it to protect themselves. It's going to make Iran rich.
"The whole group, led by the leader, is grossly incompetent, and there's nothing you can do about it. We have to take our country back."
About 70,000 people are expected to attend the NRA's convention, which ends on Sunday. Trump was among many 2016 GOP presidential hopefuls speaking in Nashville.
He accused both China and Japan of manipulating their currencies to the detriment of the United States — and called the Texas border with Mexico a "sieve."
"They're sending everybody right through the border and we're taking pictures and watching them, and it should never be allowed to happen," Trump said. "It's not what the country is all about.
"Everybody's coming in illegally, millions of people coming in illegally. We've got to stop it at the border — and we have to stop it fast."
Despite these issues facing America, "we have all the cards," Trump said, particularly in dealing with Iran. Supreme Leader Ayatollah
Ali Khamenei slammed the nuclear framework on Thursday.
"When the negotiator from Iran goes back to Iran, they're dancing in the streets and celebrating," he began. "Then the boss said: 'What's Obama talking about? None of those things — none of those things — were determined at the negotiation.
"We won all those points. He's lying," Trump said of the ayatollah. "This is some position that we're in because we have people that don't get it. We have people that don't have, literally do not have a clue.
"What we need now are tough, smart people to bring our jobs back, to bring manufacturing back, to make sure that [the Islamic State] is not going to exist very much longer."
Trump promised that "if I run" and "if I win, America will be great again."
